Rob Finn
Manager, Computational Genomics
Originally from Cambridge in the UK, Rob Finn studied Microbiology (B.Sc) and Biochemistry (PhD) at Imperial College, London. In 2001, he moved to the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, Hinxton (UK) where he we worked on the protein families database, Pfam. During the nine years he spent at WTSI, in addition to curating 100s of entries to the database, Rob spent increasing amounts of his time writing high throughput software pipelines to enable the database to scale with the exponentially growing amounts of sequence data. Now, this self-taught programmer is part of the Scientific Computing Group at Janelia Farm, where he is the leader of the HMMER project and remains responsible for the production of Pfam.
