Biography
Lowell came to Janelia from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Previously, Lowell has worked for the National Human Genome Research Institute, Celera Genomics, and The Institute for Genomic Research. For the past 14 years, Lowell has been developing bioinformatics software and has contributed to the complete genome sequencing of 12 organisms. In 2002, Lowell worked on the discovery of single nucleotide polymorphisms in the strain of Bacillus anthracis used in the 2001 anthrax attack. In 2003, Lowell provided computation support for the mitochondrial DNA sequencing to identify victims of the World Trade Center attack. Lowell received his B.S. in Biochemistry and B.A. in Chemistry at Virginia Tech in 1998.
