Biography

Mark Bolstad earned his M.S in Computer Science from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County where he is currently pursuing a Ph.D on the parallel rendering of extremely massive models. Prior to Janelia, as a government contractor Mark managed visualization labs for the Environmental Protection Agency and the Army Research Laboratory. At ARL he designed and installed a 64-node Linux cluster with 128 GPUs for scientific computing, at the time, the largest GPU-based cluster at the Department of Defense.At Janelia he has worked on several projects, including developing the 3D visualization of neurons in Raveler, and a multi-projector graphics engine used to create virtual environments for the study of animal behavior.
