Melissa Ramirez is a Research Specialist for Janelia’s Molecular Biology Facility, one of the scientific services at Janelia. She earned a Bachelor of Science in the then-emerging field of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology. at the University of California, Los Angeles and began her career at working on the Human Genome Project at the Lawrence Livermore National Lab in California.
At Janelia, Melissa works on vector construction, DNA cloning, DNA sequencing, high-throughput sequencing, DNA preparation, and virus production. She likes working for scientific services because she has direct interaction with the lab heads she works with—all scientists at Janelia are actively involved in research. The close relationships she has with the scientists she supports allows her to spend more time solving her favorite puzzle, making DNA pieces fit together.
