About Janelia
Our research goals include the identification of general principles guiding how information is processed by neuronal circuits, in addition to the development of new imaging technologies and computational methods for image data analysis. Janelia Farm serves as an intellectual hub for up to several hundred scientists from diverse disciplines.
Researchers work together in multidisciplinary teams to solve challenging biological problems that are difficult to address in existing research settings. Such collaborative groups are "self-assembling" and not imposed in any way. This culture enhances academic freedom by allowing scientists to pursue long-term projects of high significance—projects that could not fit within the confines of a standard grant proposal.
The architectural designs of the buildings and the laboratories are aimed at achieving Janelia Farm's central objectives—collaboration and flexibility. All aspects of the Janelia Farm Research Campus—the programs, the people, the design of the buildings, and infrastructure—are designed to stimulate multidisciplinary, team-driven biomedical research.
Janelia Farm's beautifully designed conference and visitor housing, and an array of personal services and amenities, help create a collegial environment for groundbreaking, interdisciplinary research.
