The guesthouse key card represents the influx of visitors Janelia sees each year and its ongoing effort to foster collaboration, data sharing, and open access to the tools developed on campus.

In the first decade of Janelia’s existence, nearly 17,000 scientists and other professionals, hailing from 48 different countries, passed through the main building’s sliding glass doors. Some attended a conference for just a few days. Others stayed for months to work collaboratively with Janelia scientists. The campus’s 96-room guesthouse accommodates most visiting scientists.

By hosting scientific events and providing lodging for traveling scientists, Janelia aims to spur collaboration and share knowledge, worldwide.
