The FuncEWOrm project team is generating life-spanning EM datasets in native tissue context and integrating this ultrastructural information with novel sequencing technologies, including single-cell RNA and ATAC sequencing. This effort will produce an unprecedented multimodal resource for the research community and establish a new paradigm for understanding complex biological systems.

FuncEWOrm builds on several lab collaborations and Team Projects at Janelia:
- The Shroff lab pioneered a light sheet microscopy technique that allows for individual cell registration and untwisting of live, developing C. elegans.
- The Wang lab, Flow Cytometry, and Quantitative Genomics developed transcriptomics protocols and analysis pipelines for collection of spatial ATAC and RNA sequencing data at single cell resolution.
- EM datasets are collected leveraging expertise from the EM Shared Resource, FIBSEM technology, Shroff lab, and Meng Wang lab.
- The CellMap project team, Funke lab, and Scientific Computing Software have provided a framework for segmenting and analyzing dense FIBSEM data for biological insight. This relies on specialist annotation from CellMap, Project Technical Resources, and Project Pipeline Support.
- Integration of multimodal data and AI modeling are supported by the Funke lab, Stringer lab, and Scientific Computing Software
