Adamo obtained his BSc and MSc in Neuroscience from McGill University, where he investigated the structure-activity relationship of brain ion channels, primarily using functional tools like patch-clamp electrophysiology. His growing interest in the molecular architecture of these protein assemblies led him to pursue a PhD at the University of California, San Francisco, where he specialized in cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and structural biology. His doctoral research explored how lipids and small ligands interact with thermo-sensitive TRP channels at the molecular level. After earning his PhD, Adamo joined the cryo-EM facility at Janelia as a staff scientist. He is motivated by a drive to push the boundaries of structural biology, aiming to reveal how the brain’s molecular components give rise to its complex higher-order functions.
