Strain Gauge Amplifier

node:body | entity_field

About the component

The strain gauge amplifier is a circuit board component that amplifies signals from a standard strain gauge (e.g., OmegaHBM). Designed for use in neuroscience instrumentation and applications, it provides a gain of 1000, has a plug-in connection for the strain gauge and amplification, and zero offset adjustment.

Details

The amplifier is designed for a Strain Gauge Interface consisting of a power supply, bridge voltage supply, offset adjust, and amplification. The power is supplied by a USB power supply which feeds a voltage doubler/inverter, which, in turn, feeds the 5V bridge reference and low noise, +/-5V linear regulators for the amplifier.  A potentiometer provides a means to zero the bridge. An instrumentation amplifier conditions the bridge signal and amplifies it with a gain of about 1000. The resulting output signal goes to an SMA connector. The amplifier board is designed to attach to the strain gauge support and allows the strain gauge leads to be plugged into it directly. A switch allows the polarity of the strain gauge signal to be reversed.
