Biography

Xiaowei Zhao graduated from the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences and obtained her PhD in condensed matter physics. After that, she transited into the field of structural biology and has expanded her skill set to cryo-electron microscopy in Prof. Jun Liu’s lab at UTHealth science center at Houston. During 5-year's postdoc training in Liu Lab, she has received intense training in cryo-sample preparation, cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET), cell modeling, and sub-tomogram averaging. Then, she joined Prof. Daniela Nicastro’s lab at UT southwestern as senior research associate, where she learned cryo-focused ion beam (cryo-FIB) milling technique and cellular tomography. Now she is a staff scientist in janelia cryo-EM facility. She is interested in studying in situ molecular complex in whole cell model organisms using cryo-FIB and cryo-ET techniques.
