In the Lab with Misha Proskurin

As a physics student at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Mikhail (Misha) Proskurin never imagined working in neuroscience. Today, as a Janelia Graduate Scholar in the Karpova lab, he spends his time working to understand how the brain uses internal models to guide behavior. It all started with a summer spent in the Janelia Undergraduate Scholars (JUS) program.

Making the Most of Your Summer Internship

Here at Janelia, we’re excited to have 19 fantastic undergraduate scholars working in our labs this summer. Like many young scientists around the country, the members of this group have an opportunity to use their internship to do cutting edge research, make connections, and learn skills that will last a lifetime. Whether you’re here at Janelia or spending your summer at another lab, here are some tips for making the most of your internship.

High School Internship Program

The Janelia-Loudoun County Resident Summer Internship Program will offer high school students that attend the Loudoun County Public Schools or are residents of Loudoun County, and who are 16 years or older at the time of the internship, the opportunity to spend 8 weeks at HHMI’s Janelia Research Campus, performing research and analysis to answer questions in biology and computational science under the guidance of group leaders, scientists, and engineers.
