Janelia Summer Undergraduate Research Program Campus Life

Janelia Postdocs
All labs at Janelia are internally funded at a level that allows scientists to pursue ambitious research programs. As a result, Janelia postdocs are free of grant writing and administrative responsibilities, which allows them to devote their energy and creativity to challenging, high-impact research.
Additional Information
Visa
Graduate student visas are sponsored by Johns Hopkins University (JHU), not by Janelia. Please contact Beth Wood Roig (bwoodro1@jhmi.edu) with any questions.
Additional Degree Requirements
Degrees are granted by the The Johns Hopkins University. Graduate scholars spend one year in Baltimore at Johns Hopkins and the remaining years doing research in a Janelia laboratory. The thesis defense takes place at the partner institution.
Application Details
Students interested in the Joint Graduate Program with The Johns Hopkins University (JHU) Neuroscience Department must apply directly to the JHU Neuroscience program. Janelia does not require a separate application.
There are two mechanisms by which students can join the Joint Graduate Program and do their thesis research at Janelia.
Additional Information
Janelia is a highly collaborative setting where biologists routinely work alongside computer scientists, engineers, physicists, and chemists. This enables undergraduate scholars to benefit from an unparalleled interdisciplinary experience. Since the program began in 2007, more than 200 students have participated in the program and 12 have gone on to join the Janelia Joint Graduate Program.
Joint Graduate Program in Neuroscience
The Janelia Joint Graduate Program is a fully-funded, collaborative PhD program for independent, committed graduate scholars in partnership with the Solomon Snyder Department of Neuroscience at The Johns Hopkins University.
