Summary
The Janelia Experimental Technology (jET) team collaborates closely with research groups on campus to design, build, and test commercially unavailable instruments, tools, and software. While most projects are funded by our collaborating research groups, thanks to the Janelia Technology and Open Science Center, jET can also sponsor technology development projects. Generally, these projects should involve:
- The development or adoption of new technology that may impact multiple labs across campus.
- High risk / High reward projects that may pose too much of a burden for a single research group to fund.
- Open Science Projects that advance research on campus while also have the potential to impact to the broader scientific community.
- Developments that bring new capabilities or increase efficiency to other shared resources.
Call for Projects
We have a biannual open call for project proposals from all scientific staff at Janelia. Projects should aim to foster intense collaboration between engineers and scientists to meet at least one of the goals described above. Although the call for projects will be announced via email, please do not hesitate to reach out at any time to discuss possible projects.

jET-Sponsored Projects are funded through the Technology and Open Science Center fund with support from Reed George (Scientific Operations), Wyatt Korff (project teams), Vivek Jayaraman (MCN), Luke Lavis (MTI), Hari Shroff (MTI) and Jennifer Lippincott-Schwartz (4DCP).
